This course has been developed for those new to project management, it is designed specifically for new startups with a small team or as a sole trader, organisations that do not currently have project management software. It demystifies the terminology and structure of managing a project and gives the basic skills required. The course will be a combination of lecture and discussion, with the minimal use of PowerPoint slides and will have a chat facility enabled on Zoom. The objective is to give each of the students the key skills required when delivering a project on time, on budget and on quality. This course gives individuals the main steps in delivering a project either at work or in their private lives so is, therefore, a 'life skill' that can be transferred anywhere. The 10 key points covered (2 for each module) will be: 1. What is the project? What we want and what we don't want 2. Objectives, destination and skillsets 3. Structure, timelines and risk 4. Stakeholder considerations 5. Monitoring and control (time, money and results) milestones 6. Acknowledgement reward and guidance 7. Communication to project team members (if any) and to stakeholders 8. Review meetings/updates 9. Project completion 10. Final review and lessons learnt For the course, you will need a notebook and pen. The slides will be forwarded to you post-course.
Between each of the 5 modules, a development action plan based on key learnings of each module will need to be implemented. Post-course it is recommended that the students revisited the basic skills of project management on a regular basis. They should also look at our time management programme as this is also a critical element of PM, as overruns can be very expensive, stressful and lead to delays. Project management skills grow over time, and therefore have to practice regularly to ensure personal development in this critical responsibility of a business owner.
Philip has worked as a senior director in many varied organisations and has been a management consultant for the past 20 years. Project management has therefore been a critical tool that he has used daily for over 40 years. As a projects director in one organisation, he was responsible for multimillion-pound projects with teams of up to 50 people. Philip has specialised in working with startups and SME's for the past 10 years and understands the challenges faced when either launching a new business or growing a small business. And project management has been at the heart of developing successful and profitable businesses.

About Me

I currently run a freelance global business consultancy and people development practice, after a successful career in the corporate arena whilst operating across many business sectors as the mainboard director in sales, operations and project management. I currently run two successful online platforms, one which is in India and the other across all Russian speaking countries.

My fields of expertise and those which will be my focus on the Learned Live platform, fall into three development areas, firstly, working with 18 to 24-year-olds who are about to leave education and take on their new roles, as this is a specific requirement which managers in 2020 are highlighting as key. This will include such skills as team-working, working with managers, conflict in the workplace, presentation skills and innovation, to name a few.

Secondly, I will be working with existing managers and teams in developing leadership, influencing skills, cross-functional team working, sales and negotiation skills and coaching.

Finally, strategic planning in three areas; for start-ups who have great ideas but are not sure how to implement them, for SME’s who have grown to a certain size and now need fresh direction, and finally, existing corporates who are dealing with challenging times and need to adjust their strategy, culture and ways of thinking.

My style of teaching has been described as fast-paced but easy to follow, dynamic, using real-life scenarios and memorable (the critical bit). I look forward to working with the clients on the Learned.Live platform and sharing my knowledge and expertise.
