This course is designed to help you effectively convey what you love about your profession and know-how to inspire and engage learners with confidence and motivation to work with schools. It can be a bridge to support employer engagement and build the confidence of employees/workers and their connection with learning settings. Employers would benefit their team members to participate in this course so that the school experience is a positive one and meaningful for their company's well being. Schools would benefit to have visiting collaborators take part in this course so that collaborators coming in have some baseline with how to effectively present and can more quickly and effectively 'jump' into the school setting. It is always best to have some training ahead of the experience. This course will have four segments- you are welcome to take all or some of them depending upon the time you have to commit. Each segment will be 50 minutes long and will include some takeaway material. Below are the topics and key questions that we will answer collectively. Part 1: Knowing One's Role Who am I as a professional? What do I offer to learners? How do I gauge my learner group? Part 2: Designing Learning Learning Cycle- the secrets to planning impactful lessons. Part 3: Facilitating- micro-teaching practice (For this session be prepared to share a 5-minute presentation to the group.) What are the different ways to share knowledge? Part 4: Evaluating your Influence Explore ways to cultivate a network of interested novices. Learn different ways of assessing the learning from your impact. Identify the next steps for both you and your learners. Each session will be highly interactive with the goal that at the end you will have a toolkit of strategies to collaborate within a school setting successfully. Note that these training sessions can be organised for small teams at different times than what is listed. Please just reach out to the teacher. No prior knowledge is needed just folks interested in sharing about their career talents with young people.
Mara has over 25 years of experience in education and now 10 years of experience as a mom. She and her business partner, Rajashree Anand have founded EduMenTeach to help support teaching and learning in a variety of ways. This course specifically taps their expertise from their experience teaching training teachers for the Post 16 sector in the UK. Many of their trainees had to engage with employers as part of their own curriculum and oftentimes employers were challenged when coming into the college or secondary setting. The teachers had little time to support the employers and employers felt a bit challenged in these settings with Gen Z prevailing. Mara from her past experience as a school head and Rajashree from her past experience in the international setting have designed this course to be a bridge to help support a more positive employer engagement experience to overall improve school-work relations. Mara has had success leading this course and those who have engaged felt more confident in their future school experiences.

About Me

Teaching is my life, my parents would say. In my young adult life I took great joy at creating explanations for things and sharing new knowledge with others. As I matured I learned that much of teaching is learning, listening and understanding others' perspectives and experiences and the combination of learning with my love for sharing knowledge helps define my approach in any course I teach.

I have been privileged with having a long and varied teaching career that includes teaching math, science, history, leadership and English to young students in Los Angeles for nearly 10 years in mostly low income, culturally diverse communities. In addition, I have served as a school head, director and school founder for 12 years and most recently was a program manager for teacher training in the UK where I shaped what teacher training can look like for the post 16 sector.

Choosing to teach online is a new venture for me and an opportunity for me to grow. I appreciate the in-person sessions and look forward to cultivating discussion and learner engagement. Also, I believe education should be about choice, and I love that here you choose what you want to study.

The subjects I will teach will be relevant to those wishing to improve their professional skills, whether it be working with others, ways of writing, or how to increase colleague engagement and enthusiasm. In addition, I hope to bring in some courses specifically for teachers and presenters around how to prepare lessons and how to increase student engagement and joy for learning. Lastly, I am interested in teaching about how to cope with remote learning and working as I have observed and at times struggled with these issues in the past and have found some useful strategies that have worked.

In my classes you will never be quiet for an entire session, nor have to listen to me lecturing - I am a believer in collaboration, discussion and facilitated learning. Problem-based, project-based learning is my approach in a school setting; here online we will have a version of it. At the end of each session, we will re-cap to make sure that you have left with a nugget of learning or provocation to go further along with some extra tools to be that value add.
